Singapore!
We visited between Christmas and New Years Day. This is a
little late but here we go! 😁
FYI, Singapore sits at the bottom of the Malaysian
peninsula, so from where we live (Penang). It's a super quick flight to be in
Singapore, it's an easy destination for Malaysian residents (I can hear some of
you right now..."LUCKY!").
This city/country sits between the Malacca Strait and the
South China Sea on the Singapore Strait. This prime location makes it the
busiest port in the world (by tonnage) and global business has flourished
there. They even have a Universal Studios Theme Park (which we did not visit).
We saw the sites, by foot, bus, boat and metro (which is AMAZING). It's really
easy to move around the city once you get the hang of the triple level subway
system. We also found that there are malls seemingly on every block (not an
exaggeration), which are nice to cool off in from the hot, humid days. We saw
the Gardens by the Bay next to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and rode on the
Singapore Flyer Ferris wheel for incredible views. We saw tourist sites, and
went to off the beaten path areas as well. We even found a really cool mall
called the Funan with it's own bike lanes running right through the middle of
it! The Christmas decorations were over the top in the city and amazing at
night. A warning if you go for a visit, it's not cheap. We expected it, but
there was still sticker shock after living in Malaysia. We thoroughly enjoyed
our time in Singapore, even if our wallet didn't. We'll be planning another
visit to our neighbor in the south soon.
