HANOI, VIETNAM: An amazing week in the Old Quarter!
We stayed in the Old Quarter section of Hanoi to experience the legendary chaos and vibrancy we had heard about. They weren’t lying! Crowded streets teemed with pedestrians, motor bikes, bicycles, tri-shaws, cars, buses, vendors, kids playing and much more. We found ourselves mesmerized by this visual chaos and ended up enjoying being in the middle of the whirlwind. And the cacophony of sound including the constant honking both day and night becomes commonplace after a day or so.
We visited the old royal citadel, historical streets and buildings, watched a traditional water puppet performance, walked thru day and night markets, ate food we had never seen before (FANTASTIC), rode around in a soviet era open topped jeeps, drank fruit smoothies as a train passed by inches away (that will get your blood pumping). We met incredibly kind and welcoming locals, who helped us understand what Vietnam was and is becoming. It truly is an amazing country, which we loved seeing and hope to visit again!
